I’m on a tram to Hauptbahnhof Halle, to go to Dresden, writing this line and am already excited!
Finally, a trip on my own, in Germany!
I wake up and made a big breakfast for myself, including noodles, chicken breasts that I have marinated with honey and soy sauce through the night, and a bowl of salad to get some fibers, and voilà!
And now, I’m feeling fabulous to go and explore Dresden!!!
My plan for Dresden has just been created the day before today, when I was so bored in Literature class (sorry teacher!) so I decided to hop on My Maps and created my journey in Dresden.
I researched by reading the description of some professional tours on the website of the city, and just follow their route :D, which I find it very convenient, as it’s planned by a professional.
Well at first, I used Google Map, which made me kind of struggling, as I didn’t know how to save my walking route, but luckily after some times, I found out My Maps and switched to it and was surprised by its utility.
My Maps is a website that is quite similar to Google Map (they are both from Google), but on My Maps you can create and save your own routes, which can be viewed later when you’re on the trip. With Google Map, you can find the route, but unfortunately cannot save it (which I really wish that it could :’D). So here’s how my My Maps look like:
I will start at the Hauptbahnhof, exploring Altstadt first, and then Neustadt. Each part of the city gives a different vibes for me — While Altstadt is splendid with its well-preserved Gothic architecture, Neustadt is more contemporary, younger and more lively. I love them both and can’t wait to see them with my own eyes!
Regarding eating in Dresden, it’s not my big concern, as I don’t travel to eat. So basically I will visit a restaurant that I find on the street, or just go in a supermarket to buy a quick meal.
Okay now, 3 minutes more and I’m at Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, ready to hop on RE50 to Dresden!
Magnificent Dresden
It’s so beautiful 🥹🥹✨✨😭😭😭😭😭😭
Upon visiting this city, I just want to study in Dresden, and it’s so sad that there’s no major that I can study here lol. Soooooo marvellous so beautifulllll aaaaaaaaaa.
Ding Donggggggg
I love that they leave a huge square for people to gather, surrounded by breath-taking building with its architecture fine to its tiny details.
Also, as a solo traveller, one thing I love here is I don’t have hard time finding a spot for my camera to take a photo of myself hehe. Either it’s on the edge of the wall, on the stair, on the post of the lamp… I find every opportunity to capture myself.
Then I visited a Residential Schloss…
Okay, after around 3 hours of wandering around and around, I finally have lunch at Alt-Markt Gallerie in search for Hans Im Glück, a restaurant well-known for its top burgers. However, I then find it to be too crowded and decide to eat a restaurant nearby, it’s Frittz, which also has its branch in Leipzig Hbf. Overall the food is okay, but not so remarkable for me, but it still gives me energy to continue my trip in the afternoon.
Zentrale Bibliothek
I love the way the City Library is build, like I’m walking in a maze, some hall steep upward, some steep down, some has a junction, and I see a WC sign, follow it, and still cannot manage to find it anywhere. Like a labyrinth!
Also there’s some personal eggchair that faces to to the city center, and I so really enjoy my personal time here writing down on my journeybook.
And sometimes I did think that I may change the major just to study here in Dresden😭
Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos there, a it’s so awkward to take photos of people studying and working inside lol, but you can definitely search it on Google.
Dresden Neustadt
An hour of recovering in the Library is over, I stand up, put on my backpack, fill up my bottle of water, and ready for the next surprise waiting for me at Dresden Neustadt.
Taking a tram to Neustadt, is like stepping onto a time machine that drives me to different period of history.
From medieval, to modern day.
Neustadt, as it name implies, is new city. You can see the contrast of the architecture here in comparison to those in Altstadt. Here, on the supposed to be boring concrete walls that are built around 1975, artists have blown youthful gust into the city. Everywhere you go, you can see art on the wall. Walking into an open gate of a random building, you may as well discover some treasures in it:
How can I express how much I love this city soooo muchhhhh!!!!!!
Finally it’s 7PM, as I’m on my tram back to Hauptbahnhof to catch an RB back home, I hear a choir singing…
A public perform!!!
So I think, why not taking a glimpse there, I still have so much time by the way. So I hop out, blend into the crowd, and enjoy the perform. What a good way to end my trip!
I will forever miss Dresden, until I visit it again, and again, and againnn.
